About the Team Ministry

Penzance Team Ministry was formally launched in September 2002 following the amalgamation of the three Penzance parishes of St. Mary, St. Paul and St. John the Baptist.  It seeks to provide a co-ordinated ministry across the town of Penzance and the parish at its centre, which has a population of around 10,000.  There is also a considerable ministry to visitors and tourists, many of whom travel back to visit the churches from all over the world.  The clergy are involved in chaplaincy in local hospitals and schools and work closely with the many voluntary sector agencies which seek to provide for the varying needs of the residents of the town, many of whom are in the fortunate position of being able to enjoy all that life in Cornwall has to offer.  However behind its attractive streets and shopping centres Penzance is also a town with many people in need and partnership with Local Government and statutory agencies also helps the churches to try to ensure that the needs of all the town's residents are met.  Ecumenical relationships are fruitful and effective and it is the particular witness of the churches to the significance of the life of prayer in action that motivates the Team's strategy.

The Team Ministry's overall direction and priorities are determined by the work of the Team Council which includes the Churchwardens of the churches and elected lay people from the church communities.  The clergy are fortunate in having the support of many able and competent lay people who assist in various ways in carrying forward this work.
